I’d a long letter from Vasti at Vehmersalmi (my best friend in those parts) saying her life with her husband had become unendurable hell (he seems to have become pro-Nazi) … Tho’ they aren’t dropping dead from starvation like the Greeks, things are pretty bad -- one egg per person per month; the fish ration (1 lb. per person per month) is seldom obtainable....
It’s only tea and coffee one dreams of! I’m really more comfortable than I’ve been since I left England: I’ve three blankets and a wonderful warm dressing gown plus a man’s short winter coat....
