August 2nd 1914 Sunday
It is everywhere reported that, owing to no answer to Germany’s ultimatums, Russia has declared war on Germany. The Czar is powerless. The Russian troops have moved across the frontier and have blown up one of the important bridges.
The general mobilization is being wonderfully organized.
11:0 a.m. Margaret saw Gert off to Frankfrurt. He was to join his regiment that evening.
We all went to Church and Margaret was naturally very upset about parting with Gert, but we are all pretty certain that things will clear up soon.
Went out for a walk alone in the Stadtpark. I feel almost certain that Margaret will see too much of C, but I can’t help that.
