Wednesday August 26th 1914
Great victory of the Austrians over the Russians after the three-day battle at Krasnik. Russian front (70 kilometres) is retreating on Lublin.
The Franctireur war, that is being carried on in France and Belgium has had horrible results—the cruelty shown cannot be expressed.
August 27th 1914 Thursday
Fall of Namur!
Defeat of British forces at St. Quentin—many 1,000s of prisoners and 7 batteries of artillery.

Wrote a note to C. She loved it and told me that she would treasure it. I dreamt of her golden hair, the other night—it is so beautiful.
