Diary for year 1914.
New Year’s Eve Redmont Trinity Place Eastbourne 1913
Wednesday
A very jolly gathering of people. Margaret, Margot, Kathleen, Dolly Vanneck, Captain Monteagle Browne, Count Almásy and myself. Dolly is a perfect dear—so full of life. Captain Monteagle B. more of a rascal than ever.
We had a regular German New Year’s Eve. “Bleigiessen” of course, and dancing all night, finishing up with a grand dinner at 10 o’clock. We then went to the Ball at the Grand Hotel. Great fun at first, but soon became very boring and we returned home.
1st January Thursday 1914.
New Year’s day. Went motoring with Almásy. Was invited to Hungary to stay with him but had to decline, as I was to go to Hannover in April. Worked all afternoon.
2nd January Friday 1914.
Saw Almásy off. He left for his Seat in Hungary. I was sorry to see him off—a rather wild but attractive sort of person.
