Relation:
Internment and Transit Camps Correspondence
Recipient:
His wife in Lagnhet (Alpes-Maritimes)
Notes:
This camp was situated in Fort de l’Esseillon and was run by the Italians. It was opened in May
1943 and only lasted until September 1943 when the Italians were defeated. Most of the
prisoners were members of the French Resistance. Because the number of prisoners was very
small (about 350) and because it operated only for a short time, correspondence from this camp
is extremely rare and there are only a few letters known.
This letter is from a collection of five letters from Henri Lantier to his wife (WWIICCC-1067 to 1071).
This letter was sent with a friend who had been set free. No censorship.
